Claire and Nyree's Jurassic Trekathon
Very early on Saturday 9th August after a night out under the stars, our very brave ladies Claire and Nyree will embark on a very challenging trek along the beautiful Jurassic coast line.
After a 45 minute transfer from a picturesque country park on the cliffs above Swanage, they will arrive at Lulworth Cove to set off on their adventure. The cove was formed by glacial waters melting on the way out to sea so the views from here onwards will be outstanding and a great motivation to the girls.
Descending towards the lovely sweep of Kimmeridge Bay, Claire, Nyree and the group of around 100 men and women will enjoy the views of the rare flattish section as Kimmerage draws nearer. The bay is home to the most amazing rock-pools and, tide and time permitting. Here they may wish to pause for a paddle or to look for fossils on and already much deserved rest.
At the end of this beautiful bay they will then strike inland, avoiding recently eroded cliff tops. After a stiff climb they will follow a stunning ridgeline with spectacular views and then head through a path of woodland to the small village of Kingston. They then follow a flattish path back to the coast where they rejoin the cliff tops followed by many steep climbs, aidedby incredible views back towards Kimmeridge and down onto the circular turquoise-bluebay of Chapman's Pool.
As they approach the end of this long day, Durlston Head will appear before them and they pass the impressive Globe, an enormous limestone sphere measuring 3m in diameter, engraved with and 1880s world map. This headland then juts south and its not unusual to see migrating dolphins passing by in early summer, which will for sure be a fantastic experience. The views again are fabulous. Continuing, they follow the path to Durlston Head Country Park where the finish line awaits. Here they will all celebrate their amazing achievement before heading home for a much deserved rest.
The trek is approximately 21-22 miles without including the steep inclines, so this really will be a test on both their physical and mental strength.
Of course the ladies are doing this for a fantastic cause and are aiming to raise £350 for Macmillan Cancer Support. They would be extremely grateful for any donation which can be done by their JustGiving page:
This really will be a remarkable experience for them and all others taking part. So with that we wish them the best of luck and cannot wait to hear all about it back at Source HQ.
